How to become your higher self

Sometimes looking in and being honest with yourself is scary and maybe even painful. Maybe you aren’t where you hoped you’d be by now, or maybe you can pinpoint that one decision that through your life a curve. Even if it’s hard, it’s important to reflect on our actions, thoughts, and emotions. This process of introspection can help us become more self-aware and make positive changes in our lives.

How to know it’s time to reflect

There are three things I look for that let me know it’s time to reflect.

1. Feeling stuck or dissatisfied: If you find yourself feeling unsatisfied with life or feeling like you’re in a rut, it could be a sign that something is out of alignment. Introspection can help you identify what may be causing these feelings and how to make changes for the better. Are you suddenly waking up dreading each day? Have you lost the energy and enthusiasm to do your favorite things? Have you stopped giving yourself self-care or slacking on taking care of your health? If you notice these things, it is time for introspection and to make changes.

2. Repeating patterns: When bad habits and mistakes become familiar, you know it’s time for self-reflection. If you want to become the best version of yourself, you need to be able to identify negative patterns and replace them with something positive.

3. Struggling with relationships: When you suddenly become frustrated with your relationships (whether with a partner, family, or friends), it could mean you are frustrated with yourself rather than the people around you. It’s easy to take personal frustration out on loved ones. If you feel you are being triggered, take a look inward and see if it’s yourself that you’re frustrated with.

Here are five questions to ask yourself that will help you identify if you are on the path toward reaching your goals and desires in life:

  1. Am I happy? Do I wake up excited every day to be alive?
  2. Am I proud of myself – both personally and professionally?
  3. Am I a representation of who I want my kids to become, or someone they should look up to?
  4. What have I failed at this week? This isn’t to be negative towards yourself, it’s to acknowledge that you are always working towards bettering yourself, and if you are not failing, then you are not growing.
  5. Am I living up to my potential, or am I settling?

Introspection and self-reflection important for overall growth

No one can know you better than you know yourself. You are the only one in tune with every thought and feeling you have. It will be impossible to grow if you don’t acknowledge your feelings about yourself and where you are in life. You have to listen to yourself and your feelings to become the best version of yourself. You have to listen to how you really feel about who you are, who you have become, and the life you have built. And if you aren’t happy with yourself, you have to be aware of that and accept it to grow.

Aligning actions with the goals of the person you want to become

The easiest way to get yourself on the path to being who you want is by creating goals and habits. Create a step-by-step plan and identify what is needed at each step. What will the challenges be, and how can you prepare ahead of time to avoid or overcome these roadblocks? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result. So, how can you expect a different outcome if you continue your current actions and habits? We have to identify the actions that aren’t helping us get to where we want to go and replace those with actions and habits that will help us become the person we want to be.

We often fall into patterns and habits that can hinder our growth and progress toward becoming the person we want to be. These behaviors could include procrastination, self-doubt, negative self-talk, or a fear of failure. Overcoming these behaviors requires consciously identifying them and actively working towards changing them.

The most important thing to do to overcome bad habits and behavior is to identify them and accept that you do them. Awareness and acceptance are two of the biggest things that hold us back from becoming the person we want to be. When we have a clear vision of who we want to be, and who we no longer want to be, it becomes easier to identify what actions or habits may hold us back. From there, we can create a plan to address these behaviors and replace them with more productive ones.

Another helpful strategy is practicing positive self-talk and reframing our thoughts. Instead of saying “I can’t do this,” try saying “I haven’t mastered this yet.” This shift in mindset can make a big difference in how we approach and overcome challenges.

It’s also important to surround ourselves with positive influences and support. Your environment and support system can impact your outcome, whether directly or indirectly, by how they impact your mindset and actions. Whether it’s friends, family, or mentors, having a supportive network can help us stay accountable and motivated toward our goals.

Lastly, it’s important to remember that change takes time and effort. It won’t happen overnight, but by consistently improving ourselves and being mindful of our actions, we can progress towards breaking bad habits and behaviors. It’s easy to let the fear of failure stand in our way of becoming the best version of ourselves, but the best way to grow in life is by getting comfortable with the uncomfortable. Once you do that, nothing can stop you from becoming the best version of yourself and reaching your highest potential.
